Trillium Cafe … it’s baaaack!

13 Feb

Word was, someone had finally bought the Trillium Cafe, months after it went dark. It was sporting the typical butcher-paper disguise when I pushed on the door the other day, and lo and behold, it opened. Inside, I met the new owner, testing out the grill with burger fixins for himself and his dad on a break from bringing the venerable joint  back to life.

Ben VanDeHey is one of the owners of the Pizzicato franchise in the Hood River Square shopping center out on the west side, near Walmart. He’s hoping to have the Trillium open by March 1, serving familiar fare — burgers and sandwiches — seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

“We’re going to change the menu a bit,” he says. “Make it a bit more gourmet, with natural beef for patties and other local ingredients. But it will basically stay a burger place.”

Looking for work? He needs a few more good cooks. Call him at 541-308-0800, or shoot him an email.

With all the dark stores popping up around downtown, this is good news. Welcome, Ben (and father Dan, serving a big helping of behind-the-scenes help).
