Wanted: Candidates to replace City Councilor Jane Beatty

6 Aug

City Recorder Jennifer McKenzie is taking applications from people interested in serving on the Hood River City Council. Council member Jane Beatty has purchased a home in White Salmon, and will be leaving the council after the Aug. 9 meeting.

To serve on the Council, you must have lived at least a year inside the city limits, and been registered to vote during that time. Beatty’s term expires Dec. 31, so the chosen replacement would serve just a brief period unless they also decide to run for election in the fall.

Deadline to apply for the interim job is Aug. 18. The Council will interview candidates Aug. 23. That gives the selected candidate one day to file for election. Deadline to file for candidacy is Aug. 24.

Applications to fill the vacancy are available at the City Administration Building, 301 Oak Avenue, Hood River, or by calling (541) 386-5212, or e-mailing McKenzie. , or FAX to (541) 387-5289. McKenzie also can explain the steps required to place your name on the November ballot.
