Ink is wet, deal is done, Footwise is moving 3 blocks

16 Mar

The gang at Footwise is excited this afternoon, because the lease has been signed for a new space in the 400 block of Oak Street. That’s right, the purveyor of quality footwear is relocating to the space recently occupied by Apple Green — between Hood River Jewelers and Dog River Coffee. They’ll move inventory the last week of April, and hope to be open sometime around May 1. Stay tuned for updates.

Looking for some cool space to rent?

1 Aug

Colt Listing Service has the gig, but I thought I’d share word that Tom Wood, who with his wife Holly owns and runs the two Taco del Mar outlets in Hood River and The Dalles, also is looking for a tenant in his dandy loft space above Plush and the taco store.

You may have seen all the work just to the west of Plush, where Wood installed an elevator and stairway to the 4,500 square feet of upstairs space. Another stairway on the east side provides secondary fire escape.

It’s a big space, and you can have it all, if you want. Or half. Tom told me today that he would be open to splitting it, which would mean you could have the front — overlooking Oak — or the back, with a river view … if you could figure out how to open some windows in that wall that backs onto the roof of Pietro’s Pizza.

Take the space as if for $1.10 sf. Basic improvements would bump the rent to $1.25 sf. And the Cadillac treatment takes it to $1.50 sf. On 2,000 sf (half the total), that puts you downtown with a doorfront on Oak, for up to $3,000 a month.

Interested? Call Tom Wood at 380-0562. See more details at the Colt listing.

A big corner goes looking for business

14 May

Spoke today with North Cheatham, owner of the old Paris Fair building at the corner of 4th and Oak Street, as he was posting up a sign advertising his main level space for lease. He says he has a couple of somewhat serious lookers, but nothing firm yet to replace Annz Panz, which is done with its closeout sale. This is a key location for downtown, and could be a major traffic builder. If you know of anyone looking for a roomy space — one with a nice kitchen already in place — send them to North at 541-386-6784. We asked North to share details about his space, so we could share it with you. Once we get info, we will pass it on.

A major downtown closure

20 Mar

Word from a reputable source says a major Oak Street business of more than 10 years is closing — soon. If true, it will leave a huge hole in the retail look and feel along the main drag, a look and feel that IT helped create. Stay tuned. I’ll try to get confirmation ASAP.
